Two matches against Pinhoe for girls
Westexe 2 Pinhoe 2
Westexe took a firm control of the game and should have been well in the lead with Jordan Johns and Holly Maxwell both missing clear chances. Westexe raced into 2 goal lead with both goals coming from Johns. Pinhoe pulled a goal back before half time but again Westexe had further chances to score with Devon Richards having a fine game. The second half Pinhoe played with a strong wind behind and equalised halfway through the half. The game was end to end but no further goals came and Westexe were disappointed with a draw.
Westexe 1 Pinhoe 4
Two days later Westexe again played Pinhoe who were a completely different side and raced into a two goal lead. Westexe got going with Emily Angus pressing forward and from her strong header the ball was flicked on by Devon Richards to Jordan Johns who ran through and coolly finished for a 2-1 halftime score. The second half started with Westexe on top but the game changed with Amber Rowe missing a great chance to equalise only for Pinhoe to go down the other end to score . A further goal came and the final result a 4-1 defeat.
The U15 girls have come a long way during this yearwinning a couple of games and it shows when we were disappointed with a draw on Sunday.
We all look forward to Saturdays presentation night and next season when we will be even stronger.
Our congratulations to the Under 13s side who won a six a side competition at the weekend and to the Under 12 for getting to the league cup final.
The whole girls section goes from strength to strength and we will be running sides at U12, U14 and U16 next season and we are looking for players from SCHOOL YEAR GROUPS 6,7,8,9,10 and 11 for next season.
Well done everyone who has played for any of the teams during the year.
Managers belief pays off
My faith in the team finally paid off with the first victory of the season at Ottery on Sun 5th April with a 1-0 win. The team had been playing well over the last few weeks and dominated the match against a weakened Ottery team. The busiest player of the match was the Ottery keeper who made a number of good saves before Danni Woodward scored the only goal of the game firing in from the edge of the box.Good performances from Kim Marchant Emily Angus and Jordan Johns.
The following week we returned to Ottery and Found ourselves a goal behind after a few minutes but the confidence the previous win had given us meant we equalised when Jordan Johns followed in Emily Angus shot that the keeper had dropped. We again piled on the preessure and Amber Rowe ran onto a threw ball and smashed the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the box.The game became very physical but Westexe stood up to it something we would not have done at the start of the season.Emma Ware in goal had to make a couple of good saves one of which damaged her finger. There were excellant performances from Holly Maxwell and Chloe Sewell in defence but the player of the match was Kim Marchant who ran and tackled everywhere.
Im going for the manager of the month so lets have our third win this sunday when we play at home.Well done girls we got the win or wins your commitment deserved.
Totnes 10 westexe U15 0
For the first time this season we travelled without any subs to Totnes and they started very brightly.
We were 0-0 until 30 mins before conceding 4 goals prior to half time. The second half was similar to the first with the girls only conceding 1 goal in the first 20 mins before the better footballing skills of Totnes resulted in further goals and the 10-0 defeat.
The whole team played well in what was probably the best team performance of the season even with the heavy defeat.
Leanne Callon, Emma Ware, Emily Angus and Emily Harper all played well but the supporters player of the match was Jordan Johns playing out of position on the left midfield.
Next game this weekend Home to Totnes.
Westexe U15 0 Ashmoor 9
Totnes U16 9 westexe U16 2
This game was played on a cold grey morning just after xmas. Westexe had some guest players in the form of coach Laura Burwood and her friend Jo to bolster the squad.
The game was for the U16s who train but do not play. The Totnes girls were very good but Westexe held there own particularly the two U13 girls Charlie and Hannah.
The score was 4-1 at half time with Westexe having the same posesSion as Totnes. The second half was dominated by Totnes due in some part to the wind but we tried to play football.
The two scorers were Jordan Johns and Josie Cox
Westexe U15 0 Ashmoor 9
The game was played on 4th Jan in cold conditions with little wind.
It looked like the girls had too much grub over the xmas and new year as we found ourselves 4-0 down in 12 mins.
The girls woke up and tried to play football and we had as much posession as them but we cannot score even when we get the chances.
It was 6-0 at half time but a better performance in the second half meant we only conceded 3 goals.
Good performances by Chantelle Turner, Emily Angus, Holly Maxwell and the sick Chloe Sewell.
The parents player of the game was keeper Emma Ware who again showed what a good keeper she is.
Westexe 0 Sparts 5
Following last weeks positive result the girls played with confidence that resulted in another defeat but by only 5 goals.
Although having to defend a lot of the time the scorline was only 1-0 at half-time with good performances by the keeper Emma Ware and all of the Defence
Emily Harper, Emily Angus Kim Marchant and Chloe Sewell.
The second half started well with the girls pressing the league leaders for an equaliser but this left gaps at the back and this was capitalised on by Sparta who scored two quick goals.
The belief was still there with Emily Sanders battling hard in a new position of centre forward following the withdrawal of girls with illness.
Two gaols in the last 5 minutes led to a 5-0 defeat but once again a great improvement that all the visiting parents commented on.
Parents player of game Emily Harper
Come on girls Ottery this week in cup replay lets get the win even though i am not there.
Tiverton 5 Westexe 2
Off to an early start again, crisp but dry. Westexe started off very well by passing the ball, but so did Tiverton.
Part way throught the first half Ellie took the ball down the right wing takING on two players which resulted in her scoring our first goal.
Score 1-0.
Tiverton didn't give up and quickly responded to make the score 1-1, caused by Westexe not clearing their lines.
Near to the end of the first half Abby Cole broke free down the left wing and took a shot whick crept into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.
Score 2-1 to West exe at half time (with Abby Cole being captain).
In the second half Westexe seemed half asleep and didn't cover their lines which resulted in Tiverton scoreing again to make the score 2-2.
The girls battled on but ran out of steam which resluted in Tiverton scoreing 3 more goals.
We had our chances to score more goals but we were denied by their goalkeeper. The final score was 5-2 to Tiverton.
Girl of the game was Charlie White. WELL DONE CHARLIE!
WestExe 3 Ottery Firegirls 3
This game was played in torrential rain and gale force wind with it being very cold.
Westexe played with the wind and were very gung ho losing the team shape finding themselves 2-0 down after 30 mins.
Amber rowe was up and down the right wing with strong runs that resulted in a free kick that Emily Angus hit the post.
This inspired the girls and Kayleigh Turner ran from her own half to score just before half time.
A few of the girls were extremely cold and some substitutions were made playing into the wind.
Kallie Russell passed the ball well in the ever increasing wet conditions Keira Mead then won a penalty that Emily Angus converted and the game became very open with both sides having chances. An unfortunate slip by Emma Ware due to the wet let Ottery take the lead 5 mins from time. However the girls showed great character to level the scores through Keira Mead following a break from her own half. The conditions had worsened again and the ref decided that extra time could not be played for safety grounds.
I could name the whole squad for playing their part in getting our first positve result of the season. You deserved it for the character you all showed in horrible conditions, But good performances from Emily Sanders, Holly Maxwell and Danni Woodward.
Parents player of game Amber Rowe
WestExe 3 Ottery Firegirls 3
It was a very cold and damp start to the game but it went ahead anyway.
Ottery started off very well with some great chances and West Exe seemed half asleep but some great goalkeeping from Maxine Welch who was also the captain for the game denied them an early goal.
The heavens opened up and down poured the rain but that seemed to wake West Exe up and we battled back.
However, Ottery scored a good goal and the scoresheet had started, but West Exe went straight in with some great chances resulting with Abby Cole scoring her first goal in her first game (great start Abby)
Score at half time was 1-1.
Some changes at half time saw Ottery putting on the pressure and scoring another goal score 1- 2.
However West Exe were not giving up that easily despite being very wet and extremly cold we battled on.
With all the rain and cold Maxine was frozen in goal and needed to come off but was replaced by a very strong Hannah Gregory who although does not like playing in goal did a great job and deserves credit for it.
Through a defensive error Ottery scored again score 3-1.
West exe played some good football with Abby scoring again 2-3.
Shortly followed by a great goal from Charlie White score 3-3 at final time.
It was a fair score with the game being end to end and good to watch despite the weather.
Well done girls and the girl of the game was awarded to Abby Cole for some outstanding football and 2 good goals on her first game
Well done Abby.
LFC Sparta 7 WestExe 0
We travelled to Torquay with a squad of 16 to face the same team that had put 10 past us in our first game of the season. The girls started really well on a heavy pitch with us taking our recent training practice into the game and trying to pass the ball around. However slowly Sparta got on top and the goals started to be conceded but we were also causing problems with debutant Keira Mead having a couple of good runs resulting in some pressure on the Sparta goal. Half time was reached with us losing 5-0 but we had played better and girls knew it as the spirit was high (much better than the last game). The second half was fairly even with Sparta eventually winnining 7-0.
Good performances from skipper Emily Angus and another debutant Demi Ford but deservedly the parents player of the match was Leanne Callon who performed well in both midfield and defence.
We all look forward to next weeks cup match against Ottery a game
I know that we can win
LFC Sparta 0 WestExe 2
Another early start to Newton Abbot, Weather overcast but dry and warm. A fantastic start by West Exe - all girls were raring to go and up for the challenge ahead. Five minutes into the game Charlie White made a great run and scored into the middle of the net.
1 - 0 West Exe. Ten minutes later with some great passing Charlie scored again. Near to the end of the first half we came close to another goal with Ellie Marchant hitting the post. Half time score 2 - 0. Second half saw a few changes on the west exe team but LFC Sparta came at us with a new lease of life, seeing them very determined resulting in a goal halfway through the second half which was quickly followed by a second. Charlie hit the post with a free kick but we could not score again but through Maxine's great keeping and a tough defence neither could LFC Sparta. End score 2 - 2. Another great game girls you really put your all into it but we were unlucky not to get the win. Girl of the game went to Merrily Kirton who had a good game with some great tackles and defensive work.
Ottery Firegirls 0 WestExe 2
With lots of matches being cancelled due to the bad weather we were expecting our game to be cancelled but no we were off with an early start.
We started off well and Charlie just missed the goal and also Chloe hit the cross bar but charlie opened the scoring with a great goal.
1- 0 West Exe.
Soon after Chloe made it 2 - 0 with another great goal.
Ottery fire girls made a good attempt causing Maxine to make some great saves but we kept it 2 - 0 at half time.
Although there were chances at both ends neither team was to score in the second half, although Ellie was unlucky hitting the post.
End score was 2 - 0 to west exe. Girl of the game was Clarrisa Andrews after a fantastic display in defence.
Well done girls good result.
Totnes 10 WestExe 0
This was the first time the girls had played in cold windy conditions against a strong Totnes side. The first part of the game was fairly even but Totnes took the lead following a defensive mix up.Two more goals followed and it could have been worst as Totnes missed two penalties. The second half started poorly and two goals in as many minutes sealed Westexe fate.Heads went down for the first time this year and more goals were conceded.
The two forwards Devon Richards and Chantelle Turner fought for everything without any luck with Chantelle deservedly getting the parents player of the match. Kayliegh Turner also tried hard and never gave up tackling everything. However this was a game to forget and we look forward to the return game next week.
COME ON GIRLS WE KNEW IT WOULD BE HARD BUT WE WILL WIN SOME MATCHES - JUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELVES.
WESTEXE ATHLETIC 1 WESTEXE RANGERS 0
After weeks of pre match build up this was a game not to be missed.
Athletic produced an outstanding display in all areas of the field with Rangers causing the odd problem,
Athletics back four were consistent, strong and made it impossible for Rangers to break through.
the strikers continually attacked the Rangers box but couldnt find the back of the net. The second half started
much the same with Athletic playing quick passing football.
On 40 minutes Callum Goodwin broke the deadlock with an outstanding goal from the right wing. To sum up,
a truly outstanding performance from all 11 Athletic lads who showed great team spirit and ultimately they
proved to strong and earned a good 3 points for their sterling efforts. A special thank you to Gary Parsons
who refereed the game superbly.
Ottery St Mary 1 Westexe 5
An early start off to Ottery St Mary, weather was overcast but dry, we set off full of hope of winning our first game.Team spirit was high but we started off very slowly (half asleep). In the middle of the first half Charlie White scored for us but quite soon after Ottery scored as well although we disputed the goal - but all is fair in love, life and football. With the threat of no half time oranges unless we were winning Chloe Glover-Mardon quickly scored another goal taking us to 2-1. With the whistle blowing for half time we took a well earned rest, getting to enjoy those oranges!!! Second half started a lot better for us our team had woke up and were hungry for the ball. Soon after Chloe Williams scored for us taking THE SCORE to 3-1. Quickly after that Chloe Glover-Mardon scored again taking the score to 4-1 then we finished with another Chloe Williams goal with the final score at 5-1. Captain for the game was Leanne Bailey and girl of the game was very close between both Chloes but Chloe Glover-Mardon won with one extra vote.
OUR FIRST WIN WELL DONE GIRLS!!!!
Ashmoor 8 Westexe 0
The game again was played in warm sunshine enjoyed by the supporters but not the players. WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT !!!!!
Two games ago we played Ashmoor and lost 12-1 at home and travelled fearing the worst. We kicked off and had the first chance of the game with Devon Richards forcing the Ashmoor keeper into a good save. The whole team was fighting for each other but could not prevent being 2-0 down at half time.Chantelle Turner and Jordan Johns were working hard up front backed up by Leanne Callon and Danni Woodward who in particular made some crunching tackles (more of that please). However the better passing of Ashmoor resulted in the girls tiring and by the end Ashmoor comfortably won 8-0. The two central defenders Kim Marchant and Emily Angus playing well with again Emma Ware the keeper proving at this stage she is the best in the league at this age.
The Ashmoor manager spoke after and was amazed at the improvement in the team in two games and stated that his team were worried at half time.
Pinhoe 1 Westexe 0
So near and yet so far.
The game was played on an overcast morning following heavy overnight rain. This was a game that Westexe had a chance to compete in following games against stronger opposition. Westexe played downhill first with the game fairly even in possesion but Pinhoe had the better chances with Emma Ware in goal again playing well. The half finished goaless and as Westexe turned around the girls knew they had the first chance of success. All the girls battled hard but the pressure was mounting with skipper Emily Angus and Holly Maxwell defending well. Tireless running in attack led to Devon Richards being voted supporters player of the match but Westexe could not get the first goal. The game seemed to be heading for a 0 - 0 as the game got into the last 5 mins when Pinhoe launched there last bout of pressure. The westexe defence could not clear as tired legs failed to respond to the brain and Pinhoe scored. Westexe tried again to level and forced a couple of late corners but the goal would not come.
Another improvement but we need to score to gain some points. Another hard game this sunday Ashmoor away who beat us last week. Come on girls we are improving!!!.
Westexe 1 Ashmoor 12
The u15 second league game of the season was played in warm temps in bright sunshine. Although the result was worst than the first game the performance was better after a slow start.
Westexe are playing catch up being the first season of competitive games playing sides that have played for a number of years.
Ashmoor are one the best in the league so the aim of the performance was to compete and try and get our first goal of the season.
This we did with all 12 girls trying hard and at times playing some good football.
We eventually scored after forcing a number of second half corners Emily Angus rifled in a shot following a goalmouth scramble.
The girls tired near the end in the warm conditions and the better possesion of Ashmoor led Westexe to concede a number of late goals.
The player of the game was keeper Emma Ware who particularly in the first half was brilliant.
Encouraging performances by Devon Richards and Holly Maxwell.
A bad result but a better performance (manager proud of you even though he shouts alot).
Yet another sunny sunday. We played our first home game against Pinhoe, we started off quite slowly but we warmed ourselves up and played some good football. Unfortunatly after twenty minutes we found ourselves 1-0 down, however we battled on and the result was still 1-0 at half time.
The second half started more positve for us but we couldn't find the goal, but Pinhoe did and the end result was 2-0 to Pinhoe. Good support from parents yet again and thanks to charlie's dad for help with the goals. Todays "girl of the game" was very close Hannah had 4 votes but was pipped by Emma Bailey who had 5 votes, well done Emma.
A strong start from Westexe, putting Pinhoe into a defensive play.It was not for trying, but Westexe could not beat the keeper.
Then against the run of play, Pinhoe scored. The match was well contested on both sides, with Chloe Williams getting a hatrick, with Pinhoe going on to win 3-5
Yet again another enjoyable match.
On yet another sunny Sunday we ventured to Exmouth to play Exmouth Amateurs. We started off letting in the first goal but soon equalised with a great goal from Charlie White.
Another goal from Exmouth saw us trailing again but yet again after some fantastic football from Leanne Bailey with a great cross to Charlie
with the result of another goal seeing us equal again at half time.
We changed the team around at half time however it did not result in the change we wanted and we found ourselves losing 5-2.
However we played some great football and had tremendous support from parents again, well done all.
Special mention to "girls of the game" Charlie White and Leanne Bailey.
Will stock up on plenty of oranges for next game !!!!
Despite all the rain the game against west exe u13's girls and Brixham took place at Brixham on a sunny sunday morning.
It was the first ever competeive match for our girls and we headed into it with a positve attitude, we had a good turn out of parents to watch.
Desite our positve attitude we found ourselves 2-0 down at half time, but we did not loose heart or drop our heads and played the football we are capable of and with 2 great goals
from Charlie White and Emma Bailey we found ourselves back in it. However it was to be Brixham's day with the last kick of the game resulting in a goal. Final score 3-2 to Brixham, but a fantastic effort from all the girls
The under 15 girls played their first ever competitive league game away at FC Sparta played in Torquay.
The game was played in sunny warm conditions a strange occurance for this year with the girls playing 40mins each half.
The final result of a 10 nil defeat was not as disappointing as it would seem.
The girls all played there part with some encouraginging performances by Kim Marchant and Emily Harper. Jordan Johns unfortunately picked up a injury that may keep her from playing for a few weeks.
Joint players of the match were Captain Emily Angus and keeper Emma Ware.
A good effort for the first game and we look forward to our home game with Ottery this sunday 14th sept.
It was a steady start to the match, with both teams taking it easy, with good individual performances on both sides.
A single goal from Hannah Coomber did not take away the enthuiasm of the West Exe girls even though they were beaten 8-1 by Ashmoor.
A fully enjoyable match allround.
